What is Platero?
Platero is catering kitchen management software. It helps catering teams cost every ingredient, recipe, menu and event, turn menus and guest counts into supplier-ready order lists, and see real margins on the events they run.
Who is Platero for?
Platero is built by chefs for catering kitchens and the teams that run them. If you cost menus, plan events and order from suppliers, it is designed for you.
How does Platero work?
Most kitchens follow four steps: add your menus and recipes, import supplier invoices to build a product and cost database, create an event and assign a menu to it, then generate an order list and review your costs. Platero connects those pieces so you are not re-entering the same information.
How does Platero calculate the cost of a recipe or menu?
Platero uses your recipes and ingredient pricing to calculate the theoretical food cost of each menu item, then rolls that up to menus and events. Ingredient prices can be refreshed from your approved supplier invoices, and the Cost Calculator adds labour, rentals and transport so you can see your margin before you send a quote.
Can I import my existing menus, recipes and supplier invoices?
Yes. You can upload menus (including PDF and document files), upload recipe files or enter recipes manually, and import supplier invoices. Platero uses AI to extract the items, and you review everything before it is saved to your catalog.
What is the difference between theoretical and actual food cost?
Theoretical food cost is what your food should cost based on your recipes, portions and ingredient prices. Actual food cost is what your kitchen really spent: beginning inventory plus purchases minus ending inventory. Comparing the two shows where your costs are drifting.
Can Platero create order lists for several events at once?
Yes. You can generate an order list for a single event or combine multiple events into one list for purchasing. Platero builds it from the selected events, menus and recipes, and you review quantities before you buy.
Does Platero show how profitable my events are?
Yes. After an event you log actual guests, waste and cost, and Insights shows food cost variance, labour overrun and margin by dish category so you can see which events are worth taking.
Can my whole team use Platero?
Yes. You can invite teammates by email as an Admin or a Member, control what members can delete or import, and show or hide the navigation tabs your team does not need.
What is the Catering Kitchen Profitability Assessment?
It is a free assessment of 15 questions that scores how well your kitchen tracks menu costs, food costs, purchasing, labor and event profitability, and shows where to improve first. Take the assessment.
